iCal crashes with iCal Reply Checker uninstalled

My iCal crashes everytime when someone sends me an invitation and I try either to accapt or decline it. After some investigation I found out it is the problem with “iCal Reply Checker” at http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icalreplychecker

After unstalled this app, it resets the Mail.scpt file to an empty file. To solve the problem: get another copy of Mail.scpt from another Mac, preferably from the same OS X version; and put it inside the folder: /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts

Lesson learnt: take care when trying amature software.

  1.
Thanks for the help. Since I didn’t have another Mac available, I used TimeMachine, went back a month (before I installed Reply Checker) and found my old Mail.scpt file in the folder you indicated. It was 16k. The current one was zero k. I clicked the “Restore” button on TimeMachine, launched iCal, and everything works perfectly again.
Glad it helped. 🙂

Is that with iCal Reply Checker installed and activated? The backup file is removed after being restored as Mail.scpt.

If I remembered correctly, there wasn’t any .bak files…

But I tried installing and removing it again for a couple of times just now, and guess what? I can’t reproduce the bug either! That’s weird…

Anyways, thanks for your time and efforts. 🙂

  5.
Hi,

The file is backed up when iCal Reply Checker is installed (as Mail.scpt.bak in the same directory). It is restored when the application is removed. The bug is that the file has a zero length after being copied back for a handful of users.

As I said, I have been monitoring this but cannot replicate. I’d like to hear from anyone else having this issue.

    Hi,

It might also be the problem of backing up process, since I don’t see any .bak files in that directory. Hope this helps.
(Or does installing and uninstalling it for many times have anything to do with this?)

    Cheers,
    Daoyuan

Thanks for the comment, I just got this problem after iCal Reply Checker was removed. I’ve fixed it now. You might try backing up the scpt file when users install the app and copy it back when it’s removed.

And thanks for reporting the email problem, it’s solved now. 🙂
